In recent years, machine-learning algorithms have seen an explosion of uses, legitimate and shady. Several recent applications promise governments and private companies the power to glean all sorts of information from people’s appearances. Researchers from Stanford University built a “gaydar” algorithm that they say can tell straight and gay faces apart more accurately than people can. The researchers indicated that their motivation was to expose a potential privacy threat, but they also declared their results as consistent with the “prenatal hormone theory” that hypothesizes that fetal exposure ....

Raymond Wolters, a long-time friend of American Renaissance, has died. He was a distinguished historian at the University of Delaware, a prolific author, and a speaker at two American Renaissance conferences. He was 82 years old.
Prof. Wolters was an honest historian; he wanted to know what really happened. He was therefore an endangered species in a profession now preoccupied with unmasking the alleged horrors of “race, class, and gender.” His books were jarring to modern sensibilities, but were so carefully researched and argued that ideologues could not dismiss them.
