Today is election day, and across eastern iowa voters will choose City Council Members and make other local decisions. One choice for voters. Is if the Cedar Rapids Public Library see additional funds. The library wants voters to approve a levy of 27 cents for one thousand dollars of the assessed taxable valuation of a home. That would cost the owner of a cedar rapids home valued at 150 thousand dollars an extra 23 dollars a year. This levy would raise an estimated onepointsix Million Dollars each year for the library. Board members say if they dont get the funding, the library could close one day a week. Also on the ballot in cedar rapids are those vying for the atlarge and district candidates for city council. Voting officials in Johnson County will be extra watchful during todays city elections. They want to make sure poll watchers are following state law.
