Fostering Our Graduates grew out of a passion between two friends who have been discussing this idea for years as they both watch the needs of the foster system grow within the Ashland community, according to a news release from Fostering Our Graduates.
Denise Rosby and Jennifer Ediger, along with Evan Glover, hope to bless the individuals who are graduating high school in the community with an annual celebration to let them know that their community is behind them. Fostering Our Graduates wants to be the bridge to adulthood and the bridges system of Job and Family Services (JFS) to help guide the students in their future decision-making, whichever path they choose college, specialized trade, etc. ....

Contract with GT Environment for Solid Waste District approved

KEY ACTION A contract with GT Environment for consulting services was approved. The contract is for the County Solid Waste District.
“That is to operate our solid waste division, Commissioner Denny Bittle said. We went privatized as we did the drop-off services, which again we are expecting that (drop-off) to begin the second week of June. This is a company that we have worked with for a number of years to do our solid waste work.”
Pump House update
OTHER ACTION Commissioners accepted a proposal from Jezerinac Geers & Associates Structural Engineering to determine the floor load capacity at the Pump House. The cost is not to exceed $3,500. ....

Commissioners use CARES Act funds to support

Approved and entered an agreement with the Ashland County Cancer Association for the use of CARES Act Funding in the amount of $63,636.19. The motion was approved by Michael Welch and Denny Bittle with James Justice abstaining.
The commissioners presented a check in the amount of $63,636.19 to Angela Woodward, executive director of the Ashland County Cancer Association. The money will be broken down into four main areas:
Approximately $2,000 will go for supplies for employees and clients.
Approximately $6,000 for structural remodel in the office.
$4,000 for a disinfectant sprayer.
$51,000 for a wheelchair conversion van
“The remodel is for partitions for staff and clients and to be able to separate everybody into different work spaces that is required by government,” Woodward said. “We are getting a lot of calls since March that individuals just need rides, so this van will allow us the opportunity to get people to where they ....
