Three Nigerians awarded Gates Cambridge Postgraduate Scholarship

Three Nigerians have been announced among the recipients of the Gates Cambridge scholarship programme this year.
They include Stanley Onyemechalu, PhD Archaeology; Oluwasegun Afolaranmi, PhD Medical Science; and Peter Nwokoye, MPhil Translational Biomedical Research.
The Nigerians were named among the 74 new scholars in the Gates Cambridge class of 2021 which was announced on the organisation’s website on Thursday.
The Gates Cambridge Scholarship programme is the University of Cambridge’s leading international postgraduate scholarship programme.
Established in 2020 through a US$210 million donation to the University of Cambridge from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, it has been awarded to over 2,000 scholars from 111 countries who represent more than 600 universities globally. ....

Black History Month presents an opportunity to honor African Americans who have distinguished themselves by serving their community, and in Savannah, that community includes the soldiers of Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield.
Today, African Americans make up about 19% of the total Army, and serve at every level of military leadership. Many of them come from a long legacy of Army service.
The strength of the Army’s formations is built not only on being the world’s most lethal force, but on their diversity of talent – knowledge, skills, behaviors, and preferences – drawn from all corners of our country and its vibrant multicultural population. ....
