Explosions and gunfire have were heard overnight in the capital, harare. Military vehicles appear to be on the streets, but for now the situation remains confused. There are even reports that the finance minister is amongst many people detained. The army denied this is a coup. It hasnt used that phrase. It says it is targeting criminal elements. So it is trying to restore order. It has taken over the crucial tv station there. One of the main tv stations and read out a statement, but they are trying to reassure people, they said that the president , they describe him as their excellency, the president Robert Mugabe is safe and well. Charlie would work as a snik organizers chiefly in Sunflower County in the delta. He would in 1964 be one of the primary architects of the mississippi summer project, though he was also someone who opposed the project. It was, im sure many of you have seen this document, this was charlie who wrote the prospectus for the freedom schools, schools intended in his words to fill an intellectual and create a vacuum in the lives of young negro mississippianss and so get them to articulate their own demands and questions.
