Surfers perceptions of safe-surfing mobile application by Elena Vlahu-Gjorgievska, Yahya Saad Y Alhatem et al

This paper aims to explore the surfers’ perceptions and requirements for safe-surfing mobile applications. For the purpose of the study, interviews with 13 surfers were conducted. Results identified 3 themes (App Content, App Design and App Features) with 8 subthemes and 25 initial codes. In-time information regarding the weather conditions, and surfers education for beginners are the main information required by the surfers. Another important aspect is the app design or how the information is presented in the app; while personalised notifications were identified as the main feature of a safe-surfing app. Using the Persuasive Systems Design (PSD) model, the codes were mapped into the persuasive principles. Most of the identified features can be implemented using the PSD principles of reminders, personalisation and social facilitation. A Novel Mobile App for Personalized Dietary Advice Leveraging Persuasi by Vivienne Guan, Chenghuai Zhou et al

Background: The Australian Dietary Guidelines (ADG) translate the best available evidence in nutrition into food choice recommendations. However, adherence to the ADG is poor in Australia. Given that following a healthy diet can be a potentially cost-effective strategy for lowering the risk of chronic diseases, there is an urgent need to develop novel technologies for individuals to improve their adherence to the ADG. Objective: This study describes the development process and design of a prototype mobile app for personalized dietary advice based on the ADG for adults in Australia, with the aim of exploring the usability of the prototype. The goal of the prototype was to provide personalized, evidence-based support for self-managing food choices in real time. Methods: The guidelines of the design science paradigm were applied to guide the design, development, and evaluation of a progressive web app using Amazon Web Services Elastic Compute Cloud services via iterations.
