Towards an integrated framework for developing blockchain systems by Mahdi Fahmideh, Babak Abedin et al

Although the expanding applications of blockchain technologies have been widely explored in the IS literature, a noticeable gap exists in understanding information systems development methods (ISDMs) that facilitate the implementation of systems leveraging these technologies. A conceptual foundation that cohesively organizes an ISDM along with its facets associated with the development lifecycle for this class of systems is lacking. Applying a Design Science Research approach and borrowing ideas from method engineering, we describe a comprehensive framework for the development of blockchain systems. A series of qualitative in-depth applicability checks with domain experts and case studies lend credence to the core framework fragments. The evaluation results demonstrate the utility of the proposed framework as a conceptual anchor to simplify the understanding of the complex nature of developing blockchain systems and lead researchers to suggest future research agendas in their quests us

A Novel Mobile App for Personalized Dietary Advice Leveraging Persuasi by Vivienne Guan, Chenghuai Zhou et al

Background: The Australian Dietary Guidelines (ADG) translate the best available evidence in nutrition into food choice recommendations. However, adherence to the ADG is poor in Australia. Given that following a healthy diet can be a potentially cost-effective strategy for lowering the risk of chronic diseases, there is an urgent need to develop novel technologies for individuals to improve their adherence to the ADG. Objective: This study describes the development process and design of a prototype mobile app for personalized dietary advice based on the ADG for adults in Australia, with the aim of exploring the usability of the prototype. The goal of the prototype was to provide personalized, evidence-based support for self-managing food choices in real time. Methods: The guidelines of the design science paradigm were applied to guide the design, development, and evaluation of a progressive web app using Amazon Web Services Elastic Compute Cloud services via iterations. The food layer

A comprehensive framework for analyzing iot platforms: A smart city in by Mahdi Fahmideh, Jun Yan et al

The compliance of IoT platforms to quality is paramount to achieve users’ satisfaction. Currently, we do not have a comprehensive set of guidelines to appraise and select the most suitable IoT platform architectures that meet relevant criteria. This paper is a tentative response to this critical knowledge gap where we adopted the design science research approach to develop a novel evaluation framework. Our research, on the one hand, stimulates an unbiased competition among IoT platform providers and, on the other hand, establishes a solid foundation for IoT platform consumers to make informed decisions in this multiplicity. The application of the framework is illustrated in example scenarios. Moreover, lessons learned from applying design science research are shared.
