let s talk about solutions. is it your position, is it the afl-cio position that the biden administration is doing everything it can right now to lower inflation? i m not talking about the fed. i m talking about the limited tools the white house has. yes, and you re right. the white house does have limited tools but what i think is happening is president biden and vice president harris are waking up every morning looking through the lens of working people. they are actually talking about their policies from a working person s perspective issue and so whether it s the infrastructure investments that we know are so sorely needed, that we were able to get past, but now are starting to materialize in communities, that s what we need to create a more robust supply chain, is invest in our infrastructure, and working every morning and waking up thinking about, you know, how these cost increases are affecting everyday working americans. and talking about them is
illegitimate. you don t want to further undercut confidence. but there is a genuine threat to american democracy. and that s what joe biden was highlighting. . likewise, john, he received criticism for the way he talked about ukraine. is there a different way to look at it? is it not as damaging, as some suggest, to say there would be different responses for different russian actions? well, i thought that was the most jarring point of the news conference. i didn t understand why he said it or why he predicted putin would go in when u.s. diplomats said we don t know what he is going to do. your conversation yesterday with julia loffe indicated a perspective issue we should remember. what joe biden alluded to, that is the different responses to different offenses by the soviet union, are things that our diplomats and national security
as part of the checks and balances as part of the country. when i see a president who is really trying to stir up hatred against the media, to undercut its role, then that seems to me an entirely different line of attack than media critiques that the other presidents have engaged in. you mentioned that the president lashes out against things he thinks constrain him. ie, the courts and the media. but it s a perspective issue. we shouldn t be thinking of either courts or media in america at least as being constraining. yeah. it s a set of checks and balances, a system. and it becomes particularly important when you get a president who tends to who wants to test those rules. and, you know, like the new york times and the washington post have scrutinized president trump s statements. the washington post came out yesterday and said he had made 1,000 more than 1,000 lies since taking office. now, that s obviously upsetting
process but what they are asking to be investigated is the process by which other leaks took place. so process is part of the whole system. they have to realize that. two other things struck me about this. one is, gloria said the deflection issue. they ve made this all about the leaking of the information, which is an important issue. but they really do obviously want to avoid the talking about the involvement of russia. and then the third thing and this is, i guess, more of a perspective issue, i have the feeling watching this that you re seeing once again in realtime the collapse of what looks like a coverup. they say this process is important and what they are doing is the most important and the information will eventually get out. i think if history teaches us anything, it will eventually get out. the question will be, will the house committee have any credibility of getting that information, will we have to go
