PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has announced the "Perlindungan Ekonomi dan Rakyat Malaysia (Permai)" assistance package worth RM15bil on Monday (Jan 18). ....
In a special address, the Prime Minister announced a special discount of 10% on electricity bills from January to March 2021 to hotel operators nationwide. The Perlindungan Ekonomi dan Rakyat Malaysia (Permai) assistance package would do little to help hotels in the country that have been struggling to stay afloat. Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) chief executive officer Yap Lip Seng said the announcement by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin fell short of industry s expectations. Having lost literally all revenue streams, the hotel industry was looking forward to more direct assistance, such as higher wage subsidies, higher electricity and water discounts and even discounts on assessments. ....
KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Tourist guides, as well as taxi and bus drivers will be receiving a one-off financial assistance of RM500 involving an allocation of RM66mil under the Permai assistance package. Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the assistance would cover 14,000 tourist guides as well as 118,000 drivers of taxis, school buses, rental cars and e-hailing vehicles. Apart from that, he said excise duty and sales tax exemption for the purpose of transfer, disposal and for private use of taxis provided the vehicle is owned for seven years, has been reduced to five years effective Jan 1 to Dec 31 2021. He made the announcement when presenting the Permai assistance package, which was carried live via television and social media platforms on Monday (Jan 18). ....
PETALING JAYA: The Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat (BPR) financial aid should be automatically transferred to the accounts of Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) 2020 and Bantuan Prihatin Nasional 2020 (BPN) beneficiaries, says MCA Youth secretary-general Daniel Wa Wai How. According to Wa, this is to prevent new Covid-19 clusters as the country continues to grapple with four-digit positive cases on a daily basis. “This will reduce the number of people leaving homes and being exposed to infection risks, ” said Wa in a statement Monday (Jan 18). “It is a progressive move to allow BPR applications to be made online, but the government should keep in mind that there are communities, including the elderly, who are not so skilled at using IT devices and may require help from others, thereby rendering themselves exposed to certain risks. ....
