A landmark building in downtown Athol, the former Pequoig Hotel, has been sold for $6 million to a New York City buyer. The four-story building, with its elaborate brick facade and bay windows, was built in 1895 and is included in the National Register of Historic Places. It includes the Athol Council on Aging and the barber shop Privilege 351, along with upper-floor apartments. The site at 416 Main St. was bought by a limited liability corporation registered to Mark Carbone of New York City. It was sold by RealtyGensis Co., an investment firm based in Manchester-by-the-Sea. The sale closed Dec. 28. The Pequoig Hotel was for many years the largest non-industrial building in Athol and was built by one of the town s most notable real estate developers, Lucient Lord, according to the site s National Register of Historic Places description on file with the National Park Service. It was last used as a hotel in the 1950s. ....
