Heritage building of Govt PU College to get makeover

BENGALURU: The 98-year-old heritage stone building of the Government Pre-University College and High School at Malleshwaram 18th Cross, which hosts about 2,000 students, will soon get a facelift.
The Hhigher Education Department had been looking for collaborators to revamp the building and found one in the Jain Group of Institutes. Institute chairman Dr Chenraj Roychand is said to have responded favourably to Deputy Chief Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan’s proposal for carrying out the renovation. 
College Principal Ratnakara Shetty told The New Sunday Express that the school had 1,739 students in PUC and about 150 in high school till last year. The PUC section was started in 1972, while the high school division started in 1923. “The Deputy CM himself studied in the high school for about six months,” Shetty said.  ....

Colleges in Karnataka to be reopened soon; pending 'odd' semester exams to be completed by Aug 15

BENGALURU: Deputy chief minister of Karnataka Dr CN Ashwatha Narayana, who is also the minister for higher education announced the examination schedule for college students on Friday.
A meeting was earlier convened with higher eudcation department officials of the state.
The minister announced that 65 per cent of students in government and government-aided institutions have been vaccinated, and believed the progress to be satisfactory.
Pertaining to the opening of regular classes for degree classes, the decision will be taken in 3-4 days after consultations with the Chief Minister, BS Yediyurappa, he added.
The practical examinations for Diploma odd semesters (semester one, three and five) will be held from July 26-27 and the theory examinations will be held from August 2 to 21. ....

Parents demand clarity in fee breakup, claim Bengaluru school blocked access to e-class

BENGALURU: Parents of students from Jain Heritage School in Hebbal protested outside the school on Monday, demanding to know why access to online classes was blocked. Many haven’t paid fees, waiting for a transparency in the fee structure and the breakup of the components, that they had demanded for earlier. “We are ready to make the payment. All we need is clarity about the fees,” said Aparna, president of the parents association. The management assured access to classes but went back on their word after the local education officer left the scene, parents told TNIE. 
“Students of the same class have different fee structures. We were also told that the three installments were all tuition fees and had to be paid,” she added. She said that talks were going on from January about school fees and parents were surprised that access to online classes were severed suddenly. BENGALURU: At least 76 per cent of parents in India are not ready to send their children to school till cases in their district are down to zero, or until the children are vaccinated, revealed a survey. LocalCircles, a community social media platform that helps citizens and small businesses escalate issues for policy and enforcement interventions, conducted the survey.
The percentage of parents willing to send their children to school has reduced from 69 per cent to 20 per cent in four months, it said. Researchers believe schools are, thus, likely to stick to online classes in the foreseeable future.  ....
