JBS meat processing company commits $1.1M to Souderton community support


SOUDERTON — JBS USA, parent company of the JBS Souderton meat processing operation, has announced a $216,627 contribution to the MontCo Anti-Hunger Network to purchase a distribution truck for the Food Resource Program, as well as provide financial support for the organization to operate for one year.
This donation is part of the company’s Hometown Strong program, which includes a commitment to invest $1.1 million in Souderton to support the community’s future, a press release from the company s Greeley, Colorado, headquarters stated. 
JBS Souderton has been working with local leaders and various organizations to determine how the funds can best help meet immediate and longer-term community needs. ....

Food pantries are navigating an increasing need across Montgomery County as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact daily life.
Now that the holiday season has concluded and the harsh winter months progress, organizations need to keep up with the demand of those in need.
Paula Schafer, executive director of the MontCo Anti-Hunger Network, has been overseeing the facilitation of resources for more than 40 food pantries over the course of the public health crisis.

“Most of my food pantries are operating at 50 percent above the normal numbers that they serve this time of the year,” Schafer said. “So people are very concerned about that.” ....

An Upper Darby man has been indicted on 29 child pornography offenses after allegedly luring young boys into sex acts using online games. Geoffrey Hines, 34, made his initial appearance in federal court Friday in front of United States Magistrate Court Judge Richard Lloret, who ordered him detained pending trial. First Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer Arbittier Williams said the indictment charges Hines with multiple counts each of enticing a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct, manufacturing and attempting to manufacture child pornography, and possession of child pornography.
