court to start. we don t know who the witness will be called today. the court is keeping the names of the witnesses under wrap prior to the day of their testimony. but if it s anything like yesterday, we ll probably learn a lot more about the incident surrounding the events surrounding the death of george floyd yesterday. the defense was dealt a very serious blow. that after a prosecution witness, a former senior officer, testified on the stand saying that he thought that use of force against george floyd should have ended much sooner. i was in court and as soon as that questioning started, the defense objected. they didn t want that officer to be able to comment on the floyd situation. the george overruled and allowed the prosecution to ask that question. take a listen to what the witness said. do you have an opinion as to when the restraint of mr. floyd should have ended in this encounter? ? yes. what is it? when mr. floyd was no longer offering up any resistance to
offering up any resistance, the officers could have ended their restraint. prosecutors plan to close out week one in this historic trial. plus breaking news this week with the big job s report blowing past expectations. what it means for where the economy is going now. we re live at the white house. i m hallie jackson in washington along with shah shaquille brew brewster. we re seeing a shift in tone in this case. the prosecution continues not to lay out their schedule of witnesses. when the specific witnesses will be called. but you mentioned that shift in the prosecution. earlier this week it was focused on the witnesses. the bystander there is pleading with the officer to get his knee off of george floyd s neck saying he was not breathing or responding. then we saw a shift to the actual first responders. the first paramedics that arrived on the scene. they said when they pulled up he was still being restrained. they got up to check to check his pulse while the knee was
him. the medic said when he started to load floyd s body into the ambulance, floyd s body was limp. today we heard from george floyd s girlfriend of three years. she testified about both of their struggles with opioid addiction, drug use that the defense will claim was partially responsible for floyd s death as cnn s omar jimenez reports. some of the images you re about to see are disturbing. the moments when paramedics arrived for george floyd in may 2020 are coming into clear focus. paramedic seth bravender and derek smith responded to the scene and arrived to an unresponsive floyd. smith, seen here checking floyd for vitals. i did not detect a pulse. what did his condition to appear to be to you? overall. in lay terms, i thought he was dead. reporter: the checking began while now former officer derek chauvin still had his knee on floyd s neck before bravender stepped in. what were you attempting to do at that point in time? just have the officer move. why did

shooting. six people were injured. they have been taken to the hospital. we do not know their conditions at this time. we are hearing that one of the people who was injured is a police officer, one of the responding police officers. the police department, louisville police department say they arrived within minutes of this shooting and the shooter is dead. this happened at 8:30 at an old national bank location in downtown louisville. you can see just a gorgeous day there. a lot of people starting their week. you can see videos online of authorities responding and then you can hear multiple rounds being fired in the background. a witness says a man walked in and started shooting. the same witness told local media he walked in with an assault rifle. again, the shooter is dead. you see we re waiting to learn more from local authorities. they do have multiple law enforcement agencies on scene right now. the f.b.i., the a.t. f.also there alongside louisville police. we will learn
