i wanted to ask you to join in here. i think we re also talking about the asian community and we re talking about whether people feel that they are being hurt and they re included. you think about the minorities in the country and often times people, you know, start with the african-american community but largest is now hispanic community. and then you have the asian community growing in rapid numbers, especially the fastest growing group of immigrants is asian. whoo about political participation an inclusion? do people feel like they have a right to participate in this structure? well, yes. that s the message we have to carry to the community, to let them know that if they don t participate, their concerns are never going to be heard. they re concerned about immigration. they re concerned about health care and access to health care. they re concerned about housing, you know, putting food on the table. you know, asians are not the model minority inclusively. ther

in the era after the civil war, america changed radically from a nation of small farmers and small producers and small lateacturers, and by the 1870 s, 1880 s, 1890 s, we had concentrations of wealth. we have growing inequality. we have concern about the influence of money and government. he spent the later part of 1890 s giving speeches all over wisconsin. if you wanted a speaker for your club or your group, he would give a speech. he went to county fairs. he went to every kind of event that you could imagine. he built a reputation for himself. by 1900, he was ready to run for governor, advocating on behalf of the people. he had two issues. one, the direct primary. no more selecting candidates in convention. two, stop the interests are , specifically the railroads. for all our events on c-span2 on book tv. the 2015 student cam video competition is underway. it is open to all middle and high school to create a 5-7 minute documentary on the theme the three branches in you, sho

the pentagon is looking to shrink the army to preworld war ii level. getting rid of a complete unit of attack jets. lisa stark, what kind of levels are we talking about? chuck hagel said this is the first away things will look like after years of war. the smallest since world war ii, particularly land forces. the army up to 570 tow troops in the army the president promised to end the wars in afghanistan and iraq of course and reduces to levels back to 490,000. defense secretary hagel is talking about more cuts down to 440 to 450,000 in the army. he s not only talking about changing personnel, it is a change in weapons systems and a whole new way of doing business. here is what the secretary had to say. after iraq and afghanistan we are no longer sizing the military for long sessions. we must retain our edge over technical adversaries. the military must be able to respond quickly to all contingency anies and be able to respond should any possible emergency occur. seque

mcconnle about former u.s. enators from kentucky. thank you very much. it s great to see all of you. i enjoyed my tour of the museum and i recommend you do it. i ve been doing a series of speeches over the last couple of years on some of the more significant members of the united states senate from kentucky that we ve had a bunch of them because we came into the union in 1792. but honestly some were way more significant than others. and the man i m going to speak to you about today was by any estimate one of a handful of the most significant senators we ve ever sent to washington. i ve been pleased to become a friend of his grandson, alvin is sitting here to my left. i had an opportunity take he and his wife around the capitol when they were up there a couple of years ago. and he noted that i had in my office in the capitol the leader s office two portraits up on the wall, one of alben barkley and one of john sherman cooper. nd of course barkley was quite bored frankly afte
