You will find Pastor Derrick Scobey at the frontlines of any community crisis. COVID-19 was no different.
As the leader of Ebenezer Baptist Church, one of the largest Black churches in Oklahoma City, he quickly turned a center of worship into a food bank and furniture clearinghouse, distributing donated items to struggling families. And when a COVID-19 vaccine became available, Pastor Scobey partnered with a local hospital network and the state Health Department to use Ebenezer’s fellowship hall for a vaccination site ensuring equal access to the vaccine at a place the community trusts. More than 1,100 people have received the Pfizer vaccine so far at Ebenezer and another 1,200 at nearby Douglass High School, at Pastor Scobey’s urging.
