The Sports Alley/El Dorado News-Times Scholar Athlete Awards Banquet resumed on May 30 after a five-year hiatus with the previous event held in 2018 after 20 consecutive years.

The Sports Alley/El Dorado News-Times Scholar Athlete Awards Banquet officially put an exclamation point on the 2023-2024 high school athletic season. The event, held Thursday, May 30 at College Avenue Church of Christ, crowned the Scholar-Athletes of the Year and the Athlete of the Year.
The high school softball season in Union County featured parity with all of the teams competing on similar levels. Only one school advanced to the state tournament - Smackover, which qualified in Class 3A.
Individually, several players managed to separate themselves from the pack and combine to form the News-Times All-Area Softball Team.
