EDMONTON The Alberta Funeral Service Association says it has managed to keep morgues from reaching capacity with the growing number of COVID-19 fatalities – for now. Exactly 1,046 Albertans have died from the disease since the first case was detected in the province in March. In December alone, COVID-19 claimed 466 Alberta lives. We re extremely busy, Kirstie Smolyk, Park Memorial Funeral Home s president, told CTV News Edmonton. Probably busier than we d ever want to be at this point but this is what we do – we look after these families. Watching systems be overrun in other cities in the world, the president of the Alberta Funeral Service Association said it vowed to do everything we possibly can to prevent that from happening here.
