Organizers have been working for more than a year to raise the money needed to update the complex at 401 Mound St. The center’s existing gym floor will be replaced, and bleachers and restrooms will be brought into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The money will be help local governments construct, renovate and improve buildings or purchase land to be used for public access and recreation. The funding is through the Park and Recreational Facility Construction Act (PARC) grant program, part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program.
