The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday approved a Taka 3,076.22 crore (Tk 30.76 billion) project to enhance the capacity and ensure modernization of distribution network of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB), which is expected to benefit and ensure uninterrupted power supply to some 34.30 lakh consumers in Khulna Division.
The approval came from the 24th meeting of the ECNEC in the current fiscal year (FY21) held with its Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair. The Premier chaired the meeting virtually from her official Ganabhaban residence, reports BSS. ....

DHAKA, May 4, 2021 (BSS) – The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) today approved a Taka 3,076.22 crore project to enhance the capacity and ensure modernization of distribution network of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB), which is expected to benefit and ensure uninterrupted power supply to some 34.30 lakh consumers in Khulna Division.

The government has undertaken a big move to enhance the capacity and also ensure modernization of distribution network of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB), which is expected to benefit and ensure uninterrupted power supply to some 34.30 lakh consumers in Khulna Division.
The BREB under the Power Division will implement the project with an estimated cost of Taka 3,076.22 crore by June 2025.
Of the total project cost, Taka 567.26 crore will come from the government of Bangladesh portion, Taka 808.88 crore will come from the respective organization’s own fund while the rest of Taka 1,700.07 crore as project assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). ....

RANGPUR, Jan 7, 2021 (BSS) – One-hundred percent villages have been brought under power supply coverage in the On-grid area of Rangpur division bringing a landmark change in living standard, rural economy and lifestyle of rural people.
Officials of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) today told BSS that all 9,298 targeted villages in 514 unions in the On-grid area were brought under 100 percent power supply networks in 55 upazilas of the division by Jul 31 last year.
“We are working to bring other 118 remote char villages in the Off-grid area, selected anew, under 100 percent electricity coverage by March next,” Superintending Engineer at BREB’s Rangpur Zonal Office Engineer AB Mahmud Hossain said. ....
