Sangil: No need for face shields: Paging the inter-agency TF

May 12, 2021
NAKAKATAKOT. Why is the Department of Health, in particular, and the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) always resort to warnings yet no restrictive measures are imposed? The surge remained unabated. And now comes the news that the Indian variant that infected millions in India may have entered the country. OMG. If that happens, a cusp of another rise in Covid cases. This paper last week reported that Central Luzon logged more than 90,000 cases and deaths more than 2,000. It is alarming indeed.
I posted on my Facebook wall how Australia contained the outbreak through snap lockdowns, border controls and speedy contact trading system. It was met with several reactions and most pointed to the inability of the IATF to control the disease spread. Another post I shared is the fact that it is only the Philippines that requires its citizens to wear a face shield aside from the mask. Here’s one reaction. Very true. Makatakap naka asbuk, pati ba naman lupa ....

An Update of Public-Safety LTE Deployment Efforts Around Europe

An Update of Public-Safety LTE Deployment Efforts Around Europe
Monday, March 08, 2021 | Comments
Countries around Europe find themselves in different stages in the process of deploying public-safety LTE capabilities. Officials from five European countries offered an update on their progress in deploying the capabilities during a webinar hosted by TCCA.
Belgium
In Belgium, the Astrid TETRA network provides voice services to public protection and disaster relief (PPDR), and in 2014, added data communications for its users through the Blue Light Mobile service. However, the Blue Light Mobile service is still a limited data solution as it does not meet mission-critical requirements.
In 2015, Astrid had to decide what it wanted to with the network moving forward because of its place in the equipment lifecycle, said Christoph Gregoire, director of technology and operations at Astrid. At that point, LTE and other new technologies were not mature so the operator ch ....

Mexico, Colombia Launch Consultations on Unlicensed 6 GHz Use

Mexico, Colombia Launch Consultations on Unlicensed 6 GHz Use
Friday, February 05, 2021 | Comments
The telecommunications regulators of Mexico and Colombia launched consultations considering whether to allow unlicensed use in the 6 GHz band.
In Mexico, the frequency range between 5.925 and 7.125 GHz is used for fixed satellite service, fixed service and mobile service. Additionally, in the 6.445 – 6.775 and 6.785 – 7.115 GHz bands of spectrum, there have been concessions granted to radio relay operations used for rail transport communications.
The Mexican Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) launched its consultation on the spectrum in November 2020 and it ended in January 2019. The purpose of the consultation was to gather public feedback on the best way to use and allocate the 6 GHz spectrum in the band. Find more information on Mexico’s consultation here. ....

COVID-19 propels health care into virtual future

Before COVID-19, telemedicine was practiced by many health systems, but seeing patients in person was still the norm.
Within a few short weeks in March 2020, health systems and practices were forced to adopt new ways of seeing patients and delivering care.
Although face-to-face visits will always be a part of health care, there’s no going back, providers say.
There are still obstacles that need to be overcome — especially when it comes to insurance coverage and access.
Nevertheless, the pandemic is spurring advances in delivery of patient care that might otherwise have taken years to develop.
VIDEO AND MONITORING
“Pre-COVID, we were interested in making telehealth part of our five-year plan,” said Dr. Christopher Davis, UCHealth emergency medicine physician and medical director of virtual health. “That was critical when COVID hit in March, because we had infrastructure in place that we could rapidly scale rather than building fr ....
