OWENGAGE - Three students from Owendale-Gagetown Area School in Owendale have been named local winners in the 52nd annual America & Me Essay Contest, sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance.
The three students, who earned the first, second, and third place awards for their school, are Lucas McKnight, first,
Danielle Hunt, second, and Lily Willerton, third. All three received award certificates for their achievement.
Lucas first place essay now advances to the state level competition, from which the top ten essays in Michigan will be
selected. The top ten statewide winners, who will be announced in April, will each receive a plaque, a medallion and a

The Owendale-Gagetown Board of Education recently elected its officers at its organizational meeting last month.
Because the first meeting in January is when school districts do their reorganizational meeting, the meeting was called to order by Superintendent Terry Falkenberg.
During the virtual meeting, Julie Good was selected as board president.
With the selection of a president, Falkenberg turned the meeting over to Good.
The board went on to select Matt Roemer as vice president, Sarah Ondrajka as secretary, and Terry Fahrner as treasurer.
Committee assignments were also made.

OWENGAGE - The focus for Owen-Gage s students of the month for January is being a Responsible Learner. A student who is a responsible learner is a self-directed learner, appreciates education, and believes in the importance of a continuing education. The student values life-long learning habits along with the importance of community and global responsibility. The following students have been chosen: Brotey Hewitt, fourth grade (elementary level), son of Nicole Welchner; Ava Sheufelt, sixth grade (junior high level), daughter of David and Brooke Sheufelt; Emily Schultz, tenth grade (high school level), daughter of Christy Schultz and Josh Lesoski and Jason Schultz; and Alivia Roehrig, twelfth grade (senior student), daughter of Shannon Torrez.
