City Council President Beggs hopes Chauvin verdict will be step toward reconciliation

SPOKANE, Wash. While many have celebrated the outcome of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin’s trial, Spokane City Council President Breean Beggs said in a statement that he hopes the trial will be a small step toward broader community reconciliation in one that has had a rocky road between community members and the police.
“Many have celebrated this outcome as justice, but so many other families have failed to find justice in our court system under similar circumstances,” he said.  “People of color in our community and across the nation are still afraid that they will unjustly be assaulted or killed by law enforcement for no good reason.  I hope that this conviction after the full due process will be at least a small step towards broader community reconciliation.” ....
