Buckeyes and Wolverines Play for the Series Sunday

Share COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State won the opener of this huge, three-game series on Friday, 7-4. Michigan evened the series at one win apiece today with a 7-0 victory. Game 3 will be a nationally televised broadcast tomorrow (Sunday) at Noon on ESPN3. Ohio State, which had its five-game winning streak snapped, is now 13-8 on the season and Michigan is 14-7. Ohio State sent national pitcher of the week Seth Lonsway to the mound for his typical Saturday start. The junior struck out 10, after striking out 17 Indiana Hoosiers last week, but gave up five hits and five walks that lead to four earned runs. He drops to 1-4 with the loss.

Ohio State Falls in Series Finale to No. 23 Michigan

Share COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 23 Michigan won the series finale on Saturday over Ohio State at Buckeye Field, 11-0, on the strength of an eight-run seventh inning. The Buckeyes are now 13-10 on the year while Michigan improves to 16-4. Starting pitcher Allison Smith allowed a first-inning run but then kept Michigan off the scoreboard for the next three innings. The Buckeyes’ offense, however, couldn’t get much going against Wolverine starting pitcher Alex Storako, who struck out 10 in seven innings. In the top of the fifth, Michigan added two runs on a pair of solo home runs to go ahead 3-0 and then put eight on the board in the top of the seventh, all of which came with two outs.

  MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ohio State men’s volleyball team (9-10) came up short to fourth-seeded Ball State (12-7) in the quarterfinals of the MIVA Tournament, 3-1 (31-29, 25-19, 21-25, 28-26), on Saturday at Worthen Arena. Sotiris Siapanis had a career night with 25 kills while hitting .308. Martin Lallemand added 16 kills and Samuel Clark chipped in 14 kills. Noah Platfoot and Michael Wright handed out 28 and 26 assists, respectively. Wright also tallied 10 digs to record a double-double. Ethan Talley, Clark and Siapanis had four blocks apiece. SET 1: After starting the match with a deficit, the Cardinals pulled ahead 15-13. A kill by Jack Stevens and a BSU error tied the score at 21-all. The teams traded the next 15 points before Ball State closed the extended set on a 3-0 run for a 31-29 win.

Ohio State Sweeps Doubleheader from Penn State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The momentum that Ohio State built last weekend in taking three of four games from Maryland traveled with the Buckeyes to State College, as Ohio State swept a doubleheader from Penn State on Saturday to improve to 11-7 overall. The Buckeyes won game one, 2-1, behind a gem in the circle from Payton Buresch and then collected 12 hits and scored nine runs in a 9-3 triumph in game two. Sam Hackenbracht went 4-for-4 with two home runs and six RBI in the second game to highlight the offensive effort. Ohio State and Penn State will continue their four-game series tomorrow at noon. The game will be streamed live on BTN. On Monday, the Buckeyes and Nittany Lions wrap up the series with a 1 p.m. game.
