At this point, its a ghost town. But as we are speaking, there are folks going by on their bikes. For the most part, though, theres nobody in this area. Now, fears have been eased somewhat, but in a worst case scenario, this part of town could be under 30 feet of water. So how long did it take you to get out last night . Five hours. Reporter its a trip that normally takes about 40 minutes, thats the drive from the southern county town to colusa where this family and their puppies are waiting out the ongoing emergency at the oroville dam. I didnt think it was real at first. And then i saw people evacuated actually. And i got scared because i didnt want to leave my dogs. That was the only thing i was worried about. Many of these shops, but certainly nobody home here. It appears most people have heeded the Evacuation Order. But we did find some who decided to stay. Dana lamb and her family decided to stand their ground in downtown oroville. So no thoughts of evacuating . No. We have family that lives outside of town, so if anything hand, we would just go that direction. Reporter are you satisfied with the way its been handled . I feel like the priority is being taken care of. Reporter both work at a local grocery store. It was chaos down there. All of us as employees, we have to stay calm and think probably nothing is going to happen. It seemed like everything was okay. Reporter in the meantime, in the older part of town, a lowlying section of downtown, the streets are empty. And tens of thousands of evacuees are doing their best to ride out the emergency. Now from abc 7, live breaking news. And that breaking news is from the white house tonight, a major shakeup from the trump administration, National Security adviser Michael Flynn is out. Im dan ashley. And im ama dietz. Flynn stepped out amid a controversy regarding the russians. Yeah, he admitted to a conversation with the ambassador before the sanctions were actually made. He apologized to the president this morning. The Washington Post reported today that the president warned flynn about the conversation, adding that he is susceptible to blackmail by the russians. Further investigations were called for tonight. Yeah, there were a lot more questions that we need to get to the bottom of. Primarily, what are the personal and political financial ties that donald trump and his team have with the russian government. Its been a little more than 24 hours since an emergency Evacuation Order went out, saying the homes of nearly 250,000 people were at risk because a spillway at the oroville dam was expected to fail. This map shows all the cities that are affected. Some far from the dam itself. Like oroville is 70 miles north of sacramento and 160 miles from San Francisco. Right now water is gushing out to bring the water level down. Saturday, water overflowed on the emergency spillway for the first time ever. And sunday, engineers noticed damage along the wall. If the wall failed, a wave of water 30 feet high could have overrun everything down river. Newsom toured the operations vin center earlier today. He warns the shasta dam has similar problems. Close to 200,000 people have been evacuated. Laura anthony met some of them today. And she joins us live with their stories.
