Check-In: Drug Court optimistic for future work | News, Sports, Jobs

With the lifting of some restrictions due to COVID-19, Compass Drug Court officials are hopeful they will see some semblance of normal soon.
“We’re doing well and chugging along and hopefully we’ll get back in person,” said Washington County Common Pleas Judge Mark Kerenyi, who oversees the program.
Compass Drug Court was launched Jan. 28, 2019. The minimum time in the program for a successful completion is 14 months.
The first two graduates of the Compass Drug Court were celebrated in July at the Washington County Courthouse.
Kerenyi said they’ve had several more drug court graduates.
“We’ll bring them back when we’re done with COVID and have a graduation party,” he said. ....

Settlement negotiations engaged | News, Sports, Jobs

¯ Marietta City Law Director and opposing legal counsel are engaged in settlement negotiations up until Feb. 18.
¯ If a settlement is not reached before the close of mediation that day, the city has the opportunity to respond to Oriana House/the Woman’s Home’s brief of jurisdiction before the Ohio Supreme Court.
¯ If a settlement is reached, the brief would be withdrawn.
Marietta City Council was informed Monday of a potential conflict of interest during committee discussions about visioning for the city.
Safety-Service Director Steve Wetz noted the same company name and contact of one Becky Mathis-Stump, who council was discussing, as being a participant in active litigation with the city in the three-year dispute concerning Oriana House and the Woman’s Home at 812 Third St. ....

Brittni Cheyenne Messick, 27, was ordered to carry out the remainder of her 30 month sentence at Ohio Reformatory for Women for a drug conveyance charge after appearing before Judge Mark Kerenyi at Washington County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday.
A Marietta woman returned to Washington County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday in a continuation of a 2017 drug case.
Brittni Cheyenne Messick, 27, whose last known address was 460 Muskingum Drive, Marietta, was first arrested in February 2017 for possession of methamphetamine and had a previous charge for illegal conveyance of drugs into a government facility.
Messick pleaded guilty to aggravated possession of methamphetamine, a fifth-degree felony, and illegal conveyance of drugs, a third-degree felony, and was sentenced to one year of community control and treatment by Judge Mark Kerenyi under the supervision of the Adult Parole Authority. ....
