Cannon Beach Spring Unveiling Art Fest Returns to N. Oregon Coast

(Cannon Beach, Oregon) – Yet another signpost towards normality is coming from the Oregon coast as Cannon Beach gets ready for the return of its famed Spring Unveiling Arts Festival, happening April 30 – May 2. Galleries are hosting smaller events – but these happenings are returning with popular artists as guests.
The latest works will be on display throughout Cannon Beach with numerous artists all over town.
Plenty of modifications will be in order for this Oregon coast favorite, however, with limited crowd sizes, masks required and there will not be the usual large receptions with food and wine as in the past. But the art will be as engaging as ever. ....

(Gearhart, Oregon) – A real rarity washed up on the north Oregon coast this week, discovered after a local couple were walking on the beaches of Gearhart.

On Wednesday, March 31, Coreen Mitchell and her husband were taking a stroll when they ran across a shark. They called Seaside Aquarium, and as the facility is part of the Marine Mammal Stranding Network, it responded to the scene to pick up the deceased animal and investigate. ....

(Lincoln City, Oregon) – One of the Oregon coast’s more beloved all-age traditions returns for spring break, and it’s even live this time. Lincoln City’s 2021 Festival of Illusions gets under way on March 19 and runs through March 28, with actual live performances (with plenty of safe distance involved) – and a large variety of other safe activities.
All of it will be held at the Lincoln City Cultural Center.

Initial contact with this part of the southern Oregon coast was quite peaceful, made in 1792 by George Vancouver. However, by the 1850s the U.S. had a bad case of the Manifest Destiny and a wrathful lust for land and gold. Any treaties with local tribes were routinely disregarded, and things came to a head quickly in proto-Port Orford when Captain William Tichenor arrived with nine men in a steamship in 1851.
The problem was they showed up with a cannon and guns, landing right at the native s seaside village – a group called the Qua-to-mah. Tichenor took off back to San Francisco, leaving the men to fend off an angry mob, and this turned into a few days of deadly skirmishes on what is now known as Battle Rock. ....
