Karachi On June 6, the Sindh Action Committee organized a protest and sit-in to draw attention to the systematic and continuous violence that Bahria Town Karachi (BTK) inflicted on Indigenous peoples. Dawn reports that up to 10,000 protesters demonstrated outside of BTK’s main entrance gate, condemning the real estate corporation for robbing Indigenous peoples of their ancestral land and forcing them out of their homes. (Dawn, Jun. 21) As the action progressed, chaos ensued within Bahria Town’s master-planned community. BTK’s entrance gate was set on fire, prompting police to unleash terror against the protesters. ....

Karachi residents resist ongoing illegal demolitions and forced evictions.
In Pakistan, Karachi Bachao Tehreek (KBT), an alliance of local activists struggling against evictions and illegal land grabs, reported that Bahria Town personnel, the town’s private guards, and Sindh province’s police entered various Goths [small neighborhoods populated mainly by Sindhi people] May 7 with heavy machinery, intending to further encroach on poor Indigenous people’s lands. 
Abdul Hafeez, a member of Sindh Indigenous Rights Alliance, informed the newspaper “Dawn” that guards and police attempted to destroy crops with bulldozers in Kamal Khan Jokhio Goth. Community members responded by engaging in acts of resistance against the intruders. After one person threw a stone at Bahria Town personnel, guards began shooting at the villagers.  ....

Human chain formed to protest against 'illegal' evictions along nullahs in Karachi - Pakistan

KARACHI: A human chain was formed alongside the Gujjar Nala, from Liaquatabad Daak Khana to the Khamosh Colony graveyard under the banner of the Awami Workers Party, Women Democratic Front and Progressive Students Federation on Saturday.
The demonstration was organised by the victims of illegal evictions in the Gujjar Nala and Orangi Nala areas, as well as the K-Electric Labour Union, SSGC Insaf Jafakash Union, and Progressive Trade Union Federation.
A large number of Karachi citizens, including women and children, participated in the protest and chanted slogans against the federal and provincial governments. ....
