Celebrating Ash Wednesday


Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, Feb 17, 2021. Catholics must fast and abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2021 and Good Friday, April 2, 2021. Additionally, they must abstain from meat on all Fridays during Lent.
Lent is a 40 day season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday. It’s a period of preparation to celebrate the Lord’s Resurrection at Easter. During Lent, we seek the Lord in prayer by reading Sacred Scripture; weserve by giving alms; and we practice selfcontrol through fasting. We are called not only to abstain from luxuries during Lent, but to a true inner conversion of heart as we seek to follow Christ’s will more faithfully.  We recall the waters of baptism in which we were also baptized into Christ’s death, died to sin and evil, and began new life in Christ. Many know of the tradition of abstaining from meat on Fridays during Lent, but we are also called to practice self-disciplin ....

Celebrating World Day for Consecrated Life during MCO

On 2 February 2021, the Mass to mark the World Day for Consecrated Life, which was scheduled to be celebrated at Sacred Heart Cathedral, was cancelled as a consequence of the extension of the Movement Control Order (MCO) imposed by the government. It created sadness and nostalgia for those of us who were looking forward to celebrate as we had done in previous years.
According to Br Thomas Paul, SG, chairperson of the Council of Religious (COR), Archbishop did suggest to have an Online Mass for the religious to celebrate the World Day for Consecrated Life but the COR instead decided to cancel it, thus  giving liberty to religious congregations to celebrate it with and in their own communities. ....
