Chennai ranks 15th among 40 cities in the Ease of Moving Index survey. The survey highlights poor last mile connectivity, inadequate fleet strength, and lack of safe pedestrian and cyclists' infrastructure as factors hindering mobility in Chennai.
The EV-Ready India Dashboard, launched on Monday by R K Singh, Union Minister of Power, New and Renewable Energy, is an interactive tool that allows one to track, analyse, and display key performance indicators and metrics for growth of EVs in the country. A free to access platform, it is developed by the Ola Mobility Institute (OMI) Foundation, a policy research and social think tank.
PLI Scheme For Batteries: With India s commitment towards renewable energy and achieving net-zero by 2070, energy storage is expected to play a crucial role in the overall energy ecosystem. Union Minister of Power, New & Renewable Energy said the government is considering to introduce another production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for batteries. When applicable, this would be in addition to the PLI scheme for manufacturing advanced chemistry cell (ACC) batteries that was approved by the central government in May 2021.
Tamil Nadu EV Sales: To begin with, the dashboard estimates over 1.6 crore annual EV deployments in India by 2030. This is the only dashboard in India that compiles sales data across all Vahan states and Telangana, along with a direct view into the state of charging infrastructure, demand trends and TCO comparisons.
Annual EV Sales India: Stressing on the need to go electric, the Union Minister said, “The future is electric. India is already on the path to being EV Ready and leading the conversation on climate action for the transport sector. We have taken active steps to reduce emissions, having already cut emission intensity by 33% in 2019 since 2005, and the capacity for generating renewable energy has multiplied by almost 7X in the last few years, standing at 185K megawatt today. We are confident that India will surpass its target of 50% energy production from non-fossil fuels by 2030.”
