about the child s condition. reporter: not really seeing any information tonight about the boy. but we learned about a half hour ago from oakland fire officials that he s 5 years old, and is in life-threatening condition. several people saw the collision and the immediate aftermath. off duty san francisco firefighter rushed to provide aid. he about an inch and a half gash underneath his chin and a quarter inch opening. he started to go into shock. a little boy in the street. laying with his mom. she was holding onto him. trying to get some kind of response out of him. reporter: the boy was rushed to oakland children s hospital. the driver of the van stopped, and is cooperating with police. she was shaken up really bad. i spoke to her. she shook. she said i was driving down the street and all of a sudden there was this kid, and he was there in front of my car. it appears that the child ran suddenly from the curb into oncoming traffic and the driver had nothing they
college students getting together for cocktails, and police getting together for a busy night. reporter: you can see behind me on this blackout wednesday, people are already out having a good time. we have a long ways to go. police are just hoping people don t party too much. these college age women are home for thanksgiving and are catching out over a drink called a swamp water. just back in town and hanging out. just a good feeling to come home. petaluma is a good town to come home to. the bars are just packed. i don t know why everyone wants to drink so much a night before eating a bunch of turkey. reporter: sometimes, the celebrations go too far. this was the scene two years ago. we had problems with bars overserving. young people, fights. you know, dui s. reporter: extra officers will be on the street tonight. police met with bar owners last week to make sure things don t spin out of control. once i get around 150, i ll close the doors up. kind of wait
police have also just released a sketch of the second suspect who is right now considered to be san jose s public enemy number one. to put an exclamation point on this. the assistant police chief along with mayor chuck reed and the city council participated in the joint news conference that ended an hour ago. the mayor will contribute $10,000 from his budget to raise the reward to $20,000 for information leading to the arrest of suspect number two. police believe he is hispanic or african-american, 20 to 25 years old. he was seen wearing a hoodie as you can see in the sketch. police tell us his alleged accomplice jonathan wilbanks has been identified. investigators say wilbanks and another man terrorized a crime spree friday night. it started with the armed robberies of the two restaurants and gas station and spa. that s four locations. they allegedly tried to carjack rory parkpettiford. rory parkpettiford was an innocent victim. he stopped at a convenience store for a soda
benefits. it s a matter of worker solidarity and we are here to stand up for i m from san francisco. we re going to stand up for our brothers in oakland. reporter: this 24-hour strike launched last night at the airport. this comes on one of the busiest travel weeks of the year because of thanksgiving and comes amidst scrutiny at the port. the port director, omar benjamin, resigned following allegations he improperly spent public money including thousands at a houston strip club. the strike starts at the port at 6 a.m. at noon a rally at the airport. later tonight until 7:00 there will be more picket lines right here in oakland. in oakland, elissa harrington, cbs 5. replacement nurses are ready for duty at 10 bay area hospitals that are facing a strike this morning. walkouts are planned at 8 sutter hospitals and two operated by the hospital corporation of america in san jose. the strike by thousands of nurses is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. staffing levels and sick leave
about an hour and a half later. and then workers told me it was an old pipe about 6 pipe and again normal wear and tear but it will be affecting this neighborhood, about 10 to 50 homes between york and cutter streets and they are not sure when they will be able to restore water to the area. but what they are doing right now is they are trying to drain that sinkhole. basically they vacuumed down in there trying to drain all the water. they say it s tricky because they have to get in at an angle. once they drain the water there, they say that they are going to cut off that section of old pipe and try to replace it. back out live, you can see there s a lot of work that needs to be done the workers have been here since midnight trying to contain this area but again, they were able to isolate it to just this block. if you are in the area, 10 to 15 homes between york and cutter streets have no water. but we ll get more updates and a timeline when they can contain this later on thr
