A family of five was displaced during an afternoon house fire in Olowalu, and their family dog is deceased as a result of the incident. The fire resulted in the total loss of the structure, valued at $395,000.
“Although we are fortunate to have several relief fleet… we’re still in our drought season. We still are averaging about 60 wildfires a month, and so this truck will be going to work pretty quickly here… It will not lay unused,” said Maui Fire Chief Brad Ventura.

A large brush fire has burned more than 100 acres mauka of the Olowalu Store in West Maui since it was first reported shortly after 3 p.m. Maui police reopened the Honoapiʻilani Highway at 6:15 p.m. Motorists are asked to drive with caution and expect delays as traffic resumes its normal flow.
