The saga of the apothecary Melchior that has gathered the most viewers in Estonian cinemas this year, was selected for the programme of three international film festivals in the US, Japan and Indonesia.
“Melchior the Apothecary”, this year’s most watched film in Estonia, along with “Melchior the Apothecary. Ghost” and the upcoming “Melchior the Apothecary. The Executioner’s Daughter” will be released abroad; the producers of the trilogy have inked an international sales representation agreement with the German company owned by American actors Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith.
Based on the medieval crime series by bestselling Estonian author Indrek Hargla, the three feature films of the "Melchior the Apothecary" trilogy will be released abroad as a six-part miniseries, "Melchior" screenwriter Olle Mirme told Vikerraadio.
Following the premiere in Tallinn on April 11, "Melchior the Apothecary," based on the medieval crime bestseller by Indrek Hargla, hit theaters across Estonia last Friday, April 15. In the week since its premiere, nearly 30,000 people have gone to see the first installment of the Melchior trilogy, the latter two of which are likewise scheduled for release later this year.
