The LaSalle County coroner on Tuesday tried to push back on what he called false information circulating about Jelani Day’s death rumors that have had plenty of room to spread in the absence of almost any information being released by authorities.

“It transported me back to those initial feelings that a lot of folks had in the summer of 2020. Having the trial now is kind of reopening some of those old wounds that haven t healed for a lot of people and it’s just reminding folks that justice has not been done,” Butts said.
