There are indications that the government might consider releasing some arrested bandits as a part of the bargains to secure the release of 27 pupils and 15 workers of Government Science College, Kagara, in the Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, kidnapped on Wednesday.
It was learnt on Friday that the group of bandits responsible for the abduction wanted their gang members in custody of security agencies released as a swap deal to free the abductees.
Bandits in military uniform had reportedly stormed the school around 2am on Wednesday, and seized their victims, killing a Senior Secondary School 3 pupil who raised the alarm in the process. ....

The Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry, on Friday, gave a cheque of N10m each to two petitioners who fell victim of stray bullets fired by men of the disbanded police Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
One of the compensated victims was a 35-year-old hairdresser, Mrs Hannah Olugbodi, who told the retired Justice Doris Okuwobi-led panel that she ended up on a crutch after her left leg was shattered by a stray bullet fired by SARS cops who were attempting to arrest a young man with tattoos in June 2018 in the Ijeshatedo area of Lagos.
Olugbodi, who presented her case before the panel on November 28, 2020, told the panel that she had been rendered incapacitated since the incident happened and pleaded with the panel to help her get justice. ....

Influential Islamic cleric, Sheik Abubakar Gumi, has disclosed that bandits operating in the northern states forests are planning to acquire anti-aircraft missiles to repeal attacks by the military.
Gumi, who recently went into forests in Zamfara State, to discuss with the bandits who have killed and rendered many people homeless, said his interaction with the bandits showed that they engage in kidnapping and collection of ransom for the purpose of raising money to buy weapons.
Northern states have for long been under the siege of bandits who carry out relentless attacks on villagers, killing and maiming people, setting houses ablaze, and displacing villagers. ....

The Nigerian Bar Association has urged the Federal High Court in Lagos to declare as illegal the decision of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to keep the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, in office after his tenure expired.
Adamu was due for retirement on February 1, 2021, the day he clocked 35 years in the Nigeria Police Force.
However, the President granted him a three-month extended stay in office as IGP.
But the NBA, in its suit, contended that the President acted illegally, saying his action violated Section 215(1)(a) of the 1999 Constitution as well as sections 7(3) and (6) and 18(8) of the Nigeria Police Act 2020. ....
