Gunmen have kidnapped two Chinese mine workers from a gold-mining site in Nigeria s southwestern Osun State and shot their security guards, according to a statement released by police on Wednesday. Yemisi Opalola, a police spokeswoman, said the abduction occurred on Monday at Okepa/Itikan village. A gang of criminals, at about 4 pm, attacked and abducted two Chinese nationals. The two men, namely Zhao Jian, 33, and Wen, 50, were working at a mining site. The police are on the trail of the perpetrators of the crime, Opalola said.

The expatriates were kidnapped at a mining site located Okepa/Itikan village in Ifewara, Atakumosa-West local government area of the state on Monday.

police in the state, Yemisi Opalola, disclosed this to PREMIUM TIMES in an interview on Thursday.
This newspaper reported how Zhao Juan, 33, and One Wen, 50, were whisked away at a mining site located in Okepa/Itikan village in Ifewara, Atakumosa-West local government area of the state.
Also, two local guards securing the site were shot during a gun duel with the kidnappers.

Police have freed two Chinese mine workers abducted this week in Osun, a spokeswoman said Thursday.
The pair were kidnapped on Monday from a mine at Okepa/Itikan village by gunmen who also shot their private security guards, in the latest such incident in the area.
The Chinese nationals were “rescued at about 9:00 pm yesterday unhurt,” said state police spokeswoman Yemisi Opalola in a statement.
She did not say if any ransom was paid but indicated that the search for their abductors was continuing.
Chinese firms are working in various parts of the country on multi-billion-dollar infrastructure projects that include mining, railways, airports, and roads.
