Overdier resigned from the council at the end of April because he and his wife were moving out of state. On May 17, the council unanimously agreed to appoint former Councilman Chatham Morgan to temporarily fill the council seat vacancy. Morgan will be sworn in to office June 7 and serve until the voter-elected councilman is sworn in Aug. 2. Bagby, Green and Wagner were among the 12 candidates who had sought the appointed position that Morgan ended up filling. Destin council will first seek temporary member Destin’s city charter states that when a council seat is vacated a new member must be elected no sooner than 60 days and no longer than 90 days from the date it becomes empty, according to information from city spokeswoman Catherine Card.
