After cracks were found in some of the high speed trains. It s thought 180 trains made by hitachi had to be taken out of service. Great western railway and london north eastern railway have advised passengers not to travel on sunday, and they ve warned that disruption could continue through the week. Katy austin s report contains flashing images. These high speed hitachi 800 series trains weren t running this morning. They needed to be kept back for inspections after thin cracks were found in some, as the boss of hitachi rail told me. It s actually on the metal against the body where the passengers sit, with the underside of the train, which is what it actually runs on. And so, that area s critical for the operation of the train. And so, just to make sure that we are very safe, we took that decision to withdraw the trains while we just made sure that we fully understood the situation and that it is actually safe for the trains to operate with passengers riding on them. I cringed here. It s enough to scare the pants off anyone, this. Now it s time for a look at the weather with ben rich. Good afternoon. A burst of spring warmth for many today. Temperatures across eastern england already up to 21 degrees. Not as warm further west but still warmer than it has been. Certainly not sunny everywhere, we have areas of cloud around, showers for northern ireland especially and tonight we will see heavy downpours and thunderstorms drifting across the south east, east anglia and perhaps north england by the end of the night. It will be frost free for just about all of us, 12 degrees, the overnight low in norwich. Tomorrow, it is sunshine and showers with persistent rain in north east scotland but elsewhere showers get going through the day, some will be heavy and thundery but there will be dry and sunny interludes in between. the coast of nearby malta. rail passengers are being warned to expect disruption into the working week while investigations continue into cracks in the chassis of hitachi 800 trains. one company gwr is advising against travel on its long distance routes. katy austin has the story tannoy: this train will not be calling at llanelli. .. 183 of these high speed trains were held back for safety checks after small cracks were found in some. great western railway has been hardest hit. only 10% of its long distance service has been running today. i was meant to travel yesterday and that got cancelled twice, so i ended up going today. i got to paddington, not really picking up on the news last night. and then i found out that most of the trains had been cancelled. but it s added about an hour. passengers are being told not to travel on monday, either. we ve got 93 of these trains in our fleet and we need around 60 or 70 to run the kind of levels of service that we would normally
