Vanguard News Kwara: 3 die as mob attack Customs checkpoint On Nigeria Customs Service The Nigeria Customs Service, Kwara Command, has said that three persons died during a mob attack on its sector 3 check point and operational base in Ilesha-Baruba area of the state, according to Mr Zakari Chado, the command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO). In a statement in Ilorin, on Saturday, Chado said information received from the Sector 3 team leader in Ilesha-Baruba indicated that the three persons were part of the mob that attacked the check point and attempted to overrun the base. The PRO said: “On January. 8, at about 8pm, Sector 3 security operatives at Ilesha Baruba, while conducting stop and search at a checkpoint along Saki – Ilesha Baruba axis, flagged down a Volkswagen Golf Vehicle ....

Comptroller Kolo stated this during his courtesy visits to Alake and the Paramount Ruller of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Agura of Gbagura, Oba Saburi Babajide Bakre and the Olu of Kobape, Oba Olufemi Allen-Taylor. According to him, the Nigeria Customs Service is not a blood tasting organisation but a government agent that works under laid down rules and regulations hence, the need for traditional rulers and all necessary stakeholders to join hands and support the Customs. ....
Vanguard News Customs revenue rises 16% to N1.6trn, surpasses target by 13% On By Emma Ujah, Abuja Bureau Chief Against the backdrop of over one year shutdown of Nigeria’s land borders, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has overshot its revenue target by 13.2 percent in 2020 while surpassing the 2019 performance by 16.4 percent. Nigeria shut all its land borders since August 2019, thereby freezing revenue that could have accrued from imports through the borders. Following the criticism that greeted the closure of the borders the NCS had argued that its revenue would be boosted with the border closures. But many stakeholders believed the problem was more of leakages and corruption which denied the Customs the revenue accruable from duties payable on land border imports. ....

In addition, Umar said operatives of the command under his watch impounded contraband items worth over N23.7million within the first two weeks of December 2020, putting the total Duty Paid Value of the 353 seizures at over N900million. ....
Ayetoro attack: Hoodlums attacked our personnel ― Customs On By James Ogunnaike, Abeokuta Authorities of the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit (FOU) have declared that it was hoodlums who attacked its personnel in Kikelomo area of Ayetoro, the headquarters of Yewa North local government area of Ogun State on Tuesday while carrying out their constitutional duty of anti-smuggling. The Public Relations Officer of the FOU unit Zone A of the NCS, DSC Theophilus Duniya who disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, said three Customs officers sustained various degrees of injuries while one person was hit by stray bullet during the attack. ....
