The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), yesterday, said it made and remitted N1.004 trillion into Federal Government’s coffers in the first six months of the year.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO), Deputy Controller Joseph Attah, who made the disclosure in the organisation’s half-year report, said the scorecard was significantly higher than the N713.55 billion realised in the corresponding period of 2020.
He admitted that the tripartite agreement struck with Benin and Niger republics immensely checked cross-border crimes.
As proof, Attah said 2,333 seizures were made within the period under review, resulting in Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N4.42 billion. ....

Against the backdrop of over one year shutdown of Nigeria’s land borders, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has overshot its revenue target by 13.2 percent in 2020 while surpassing the 2019 performance by 16.4 percent.
Nigeria shut all its land borders since August 2019, thereby freezing revenue that could have accrued from imports through the borders.
Following the criticism that greeted the closure of the borders the NCS had argued that its revenue would be boosted with the border closures.
But many stakeholders believed the problem was more of leakages and corruption which denied the Customs the revenue accruable from duties payable on land border imports. ....

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) generated the sum of N1. 562 trillion in the 2020 fiscal year.
A statement by the Public Relations Officer, Deputy-Controller Joseph Attah, in Abuja, Wednesday, indicated that the amount generated was over the target of N1. 380 trillion set for the organisation by the Federal Government.
Last year’s revenue was also in excess of the N1.342 trillion it generated in 2019, despite the COVID-19 pandemic’s effects on the economy during the period under review.
The feat, Mr Attah, said was “as a result of the resolute pursuit of what is right and willingness to adapt to changes brought about by global health challenges occasioned by COVID-19.” ....
