TDCJ announces COVID-linked death of Lubbock Montford Unit officer A-J Media The Texas Department of Criminal Justice this week announced it is grieving the death of an employee of the Lubbock-based Montford Unit, which is being linked to COVID-19. Correctional Officer V Joe Landin, 54, had 25 years of service with TDCJ and was assigned to the Montford Unit, according to a news release from the TDCJ. He tested positive for COVID-19 and was admitted to a Lubbock hospital on Dec. 14. Officer Landin spent several days in an intensive care unit before he died Monday.
