The Supreme Court on Tuesday sought a reply from Delhi government as to whether it could control the entry of taxis into Delhi from other States as an additional step to reduce air pollution in the national capital.
Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Wednesday said that the odd-even scheme would be implemented post the reevaluation by government following the Supreme Court s recent scrutiny of the initiative. The scheme, designed to mitigate vehicular pollution, has come under examination, with the apex court questioning its impact and referring to it as "all optics."
The high-level meeting, which will be attended by representatives from transport, revenue, and other departments, will convene at 12 noon to implement the Supreme Court s observations, an official said.
First implemented by the Kejriwal-led government in 2016, the odd-even rule, which allows private four-wheelers to be driven only on alternate days according to the last digit of their number plate, had limited impact mainly due to the many exemptions.
