Early last spring, Reese Gonzalez and a group of her classmates at East Central High School started planning their junior prom. They picked out the decorations and came up with ideas for how the venue would be set up.
Some of them bought dresses or rented tuxedos, excited about a quintessential aspect of the American high school experience. Then COVID-19 arrived and swept away most of that experience, shutting down campuses and converting graduations and other end-of-year rituals into lackluster virtual events. ....
