They picked out the decorations and came up with ideas for how the venue would be set up. Some of them bought dresses or rented tuxedos, excited about a quintessential aspect of the American high school experience. Then COVID-19 arrived and swept away most of that experience, shutting down campuses and converting graduations and other end-of-year rituals into lackluster virtual events.
