Brodey Murbarger, 26, was found guilty of first degree murder on Thursday after the jury deliberated for only an hour. Murbarger was accused in the 2014 disappearance and killing of 15-year-old Megan Nichols. FBI investigator William O'Sullivan testified Wednesday about the more than 7,000 text messages exchanged between Murbarger and Nichols between December 2013 and February 2014. O'Sullivan said the messages at first were romantic and sexual in nature and included several references to the couple planning a runaway in mid-2014. O'Sullivan says that in February 2014 the messages reflected a more tumultuous relationship, with Murbarger at one point calling Nichols 'annoying.' The defense only called Murbarger's father Jayson Murbarger to the stand, as well as the defendant himself to testify. The father and son were asked about blood found in the defendant's car that prosecutors argued was used to transport Megan's body to a rural Boyleston fiel ....

Jury deliberation is tentatively expected to begin later today, as Testimony is wrapping up at the Wayne County Courthouse in the first-degree murder trial of Brodey I. Murbarger. Murbarger, 26, is accused of the disappearance and murder of 15-year-old Megan Nichols of Faifield on July 3, 2014. Murbarger was arrested on October 8th of 2020 in Evansville, IN after being indicted by a Wayne County Grand Jury. The State moved to dismiss one of the charges against Murbarger as the trial got underway. The Class-3 felony charge of concealment of a homicidal death was dismissed without prejudice and without objection. That charge alleged that Murbarger, with knowledge that Megan P. Nichols had died by homicidal means, knowingly concealed the death of Megan P. Nichols by causing her body to be buried in a shallow grave in a remote area of Wayne County." Murbarger is standing trial for three counts of first-degree murder in the death of Nichols, who went missing on the evening of July 3, 2 ....

The Fairfield City Council met in regular session last night with all members in attendance. The sale of the former Auxiliary Police Building was completed with 2 bidders submitting bids for the property. The successful bidder was Ian Bare, who informed the council that he intended to open a flooring store in the building and would add 3-4 jobs in the process. His successful bid was $67,000. The other bidder was Martin & Bailey, who operate the Hucks Convenience Store next to the Auxiliary Police Building. Their plans included moving their game room to the rear and expanding the kitchen offerings. They too stated they would add 3-4 jobs when completed. Their bid was $66,750. The vote was unanimous to accept the bid from Bare with Alderman McGill abstaining. Properties at 1010 West Court and 110 NW 10th St. were rezoned from R-2 to B-3.
