The majority of Manitoba Housing units tested by CBC News this summer recorded heat that could put the health of some residents at risk, as a resident and a tenant advocate call on government to make it easier to install air conditioning in social housing.
North End residents gathered for an afternoon of music, food, celebration, and remembrance Saturday as a picnic/concert celebrated community and honoured the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG).
The tenant-landlord co-operation program kicked into high gear when residents were displaced by the sale and ensuing closure of the Windsor Hotel. Advocates have been able to help secure alternative housing for those in need, but their work with the people displaced continues.
CBC spoke with several Winnipeg residents this week, just over a month ahead of the Oct. 26 election, about what they want to see from Winnipeg's next mayor. They flagged issues ranging from poverty to safety to 311 service as things they'd like the mayor to address.
