Cooke County Couple Arrested for Alleged Involvement in Capitol Insurrection

As police desperately tried to stop an angry mob from storming the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, North Texas’ Mark Middleton pushed back against the barricade, federal authorities say. Decked out in a red, white and blue Trump beanie, Middleton hurled insults at the officers. “Fuck you!” Middleton screamed, according to court documents. Three-and-a-half months later, he’d be arrested. Middleton is a GOP precinct chair in Cooke County, around 85 miles north of Dallas. His wife, Jalise, was also with him that day. But now, the Forestburg couple is facing seven charges apiece for their alleged involvement in the Jan. 6 insurrection.

Texas couple accused of assaulting officers during Capitol insurrection, FBI says

DALLAS — A North Texas couple who allegedly assaulted police officers with their hands during the Jan. 6 insurrection and siege of the U.S. Capitol were arrested this week and charged in federal court, authorities said. Mark and Jalise Middleton of Forestburg, an unincorporated area about 80 miles northwest of Dallas in Montague County, were captured on video and in photographs participating in the riot, the FBI says in a federal criminal complaint. They were arrested Wednesday and released Thursday from the Collin County jail, according to jail records. The married couple are charged with assault of a law enforcement officer, interference with a law enforcement officer during civil disorder, obstruction of an official proceeding, unlawful entry on restricted grounds, and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.

Forestburg couple accused of assaulting cops at Capitol during riots

The FBI complaint gives this account of the allegations against the Middletons:  Body camera footage from the Metropolitan Police Department shows two officers being assaulted on Capitol grounds near a bike rack barricade line at the base of the Capitol building s west front. The two MPD officers were dispatched to help U.S. Capitol Police protect the grounds and Capitol building.  About 2:09 p.m. Jan. 6, the two MPD cops and other officers struggled to hold the line against rioters. The rioters were refusing to step back from the barricade and were trying to break through the police line.  Mark Middleton, wearing a red, white and blue President Donald Trump beanie, pushed against the barricades and the police line.
