Student Karis Wilson was sent home from NorKam Secondary because she made a teacher “uncomfortable” with her fashion choice, a dress overtop a white turtleneck. Her fellow classmates supported her with a walkout, Feb. 25. The current clothing policy says students may not wear clothing that promotes illegal drugs, contains pornographic images or that contains symbols that promotes hate towards a person or persons.
April 07, 2021 - 6:00 PM Teachers at 10 Kelowna area schools thought they were going to get their COVID-19 jabs on April 1, but within hours they learned they d beed fooled by what is being chalked up to be a communication error. According to a teacher who was lined up to get immunized, staff at the schools that were selected for having the highest number of exposure events were elated to learn they’d get COVID-19 vaccinations. “Through a miscommunication by Interior Health, the school district began organizing teachers to be immunized starting last weekend. We thank the school district for their quick response and for their support throughout the past year,” according to a statement attributed to Dr. Albert de Villiers, chief medical health officer.
Another pair of Thompson-Okanagan schools report COVID-19 exposures
Another pair of schools in the Thompson-Okanagan have had COVID-19 exposures.
According to Interior Health, Kelowna s Aberdeen Hall Preparatory School and Logan Lake Elementary had confirmed cases of the virus. Aberdeen Hall s potential exposure took place on March 29 while the incident at Logan Lake Elementary occurred on the 29th and 30th.
Logan Lake Elementary becomes the third institution in the Kamloops-Thompson School District to have an exposure. It joins Norkam Secondary and Westmount Elementary.
Aberdeen Hall is the seventh school in the Central Okanagan to have a confirmed case.
All students and staff affected by the exposures are self-isolating and monitoring for symptoms. Contact tracing has also begun.
Image Credit: Levi Landry March 31, 2021 - 5:27 PM Lockdowns have been lifted from North Shore and Brocklehurst schools as Kamloops RCMP continue to investigate a threat. RCMP received a threat related to Norkam Secondary School on the North Shore this afternoon, March 31, but police aren t providing any details about the nature of the threat. “(RCMP) are working with the school district to coordinate the safe exit of students to their parents. Police are still investigating the nature of the threat,” Kamloops RCMP media relations officer Const. Crystal Evelyn said. No further information is available at this time. The high school s administration locked down the school immediately and other schools in close proximity were also locked down.
