Hendrickson and Damjan to stay on FIS Athletes Commission despite retirements Saturday, 22 May 2021 Sarah Hendrickson of the United States and Jernej Damjan of Slovenia have called time on their competitive ski jumping careers but will remain on the International Ski Federation (FIS) Athletes Commission. Hendrickson made history at Sochi 2014 when she became the first woman to jump in an Olympic ski jumping event. The American’s career highlights also include winning the inaugural women’s FIS Ski Jumping World Cup overall title in 2012 and being crowned world champion in 2013. But Hendrickson, who has overcome a series of injuries including serious knee ligament damage that required reconstructive surgery, has announced her retirement at the age of 26. ....

With 57-year-old Finn Mika Jukkara, an experienced and, within the Ski Jumping community, a well-known and esteemed man will be the successor of Sepp Gratzer. Dover doctor is head physician for USA Nordic ski team Karen Dandurant DOVER – Very carefully, in light of COVID-19, some exciting sporting events were able to take place and one Wentworth-Douglass physician got to be a part of one of them. Dr. Christopher Couture, a non-surgical sports medicine doctor at WDH, is the head team physician for the USA Nordic Ski team and recently returned from the World Championships in Oberstdorf, Germany. He also serves as head team physician for the athletic program at the University of New Hampshire, treating injuries and illnesses there. “I am from Vermont, so I have skied since I was teenager,” said Couture. “As a doctor, I knew about the opportunity to serve these US teams and, when the time was right, I went for it.” ....
