It may have been only a Week 2 matchup, but Friday night at the Falcon Athletic Complex resembled more of a state playoff game than a typical non-conference contest. The Lutheran North Crusaders made minimal mistakes, scored the game’s first two touchdowns and kept the Blair Oaks Falcons at arm’s length the rest of the way. The Crusaders held on for a 38-30 victory, winning for the first time in four tries against the Falcons.

Ryan Fick had a pretty good idea he would get to 400 career wins at some point this season. But with a large turnover from last year’s roster and a tough strength of schedule, he wasn’t sure how long it would take to get there. A six-game win streak since late December by the Blair Oaks Falcons allowed Fick to reach the milestone Friday night on his home court. “It’s nice to get to that milestone,” Fick said after Blair Oaks’ 80-64 win against the Versailles Tigers in Tri-County Conference play. “It says a lot about our program and the kids that play. I’m happy to be in a great place."

The math added up to a 66-48 victory against the Bobcats in the Class 2 state semifinals.

BOWLING GREEN The Bowling Green Bobcats came into Saturday’s Class 2 state semifinal game averaging 66 points per game. However, it was the Blair Oaks Falcons who scored 66 points instead. Blair Oaks scored touchdowns on 10 of its 15 possessions, accumulating 804 yards of total offense. The Falcons won in the state semifinals for the third time in the past five years, claiming a 66-48 shootout victory against the Bobcats.
