Tridents to rebound? - Barbados Today

A much fitter Barbados senior men’s team are focused and ready to erase their recent bad fortunes, said national head coach Russell ‘Little Magician’ Latapy during the final training session held last night at the Barbados Football Association’s Wildey AstroTurf.Over the past couple of months, the performances have not been favourable for the Bajan Tridents and Latapy said the team is in a much better place now and therefore want to start producing winning results.“We trust in what we do on the training ground, we trust in our structure and the way we want to play and we think that it is going to bring us results. Like I said physically we are much better prepared now than we were four, or six months ago. I think I have had more access to the players at crucial times over the last four weeks.“We have been able to improve the fitness level of players and obviously once we are fitter the decision-making process becomes a lot better. Head coach of the Barbados senior men’s team Russell Latapy is confident that his players can produce the type of results required in the first leg of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) qualifiers.
The Bajan Tridents are scheduled to depart the country tomorrow (March 10) for a two-weeks training camp at a facility called Cana Cana located in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, in preparation for the qualifiers.
Once that all-important camp has concluded to get the senior national side ready, they will travel from March 22 to March 31 to Santo Domingo where the matches are scheduled to be played at the Estadio Olimpico Feliz Sanchez. ....

Anthony ‘Piano’ Prescott, one of Barbados’ finest ever strikers from the 1970s and 1980s, would like to see the standard of football in the island rise to a level where amateurs are turned into professionals.
The 65-year-old who was once known for his jaw-dropping skills and movement while in possession of a football said a lot of improvement was still needed because Barbados is still not being competitive enough against international teams.
“The youngsters have it better now. In my days we did not even have a pair of football boots but these fellas now have everything. They have pretty colour boots, they have all types of things now, and still, they are not improving. But they have a good coach (Russell Latapy) and I hope and pray that they could develop over the years,” Prescott told ....

Barbados international Nicholas Blackman hopes his success as a professional can inspire local players and also pave the way for a new generation of footballers to emerge from the island.
The 31-year-old striker recently became the first professional with Barbadian heritage to play in the high profile Europa League when he turned out for Israeli top flight club, Maccabi Tel Aviv.
